Terms of Service

Note on this document: Leafy is currently operated under the "Leafy" brand without a separately registered legal entity name published yet. This should be added before Leafy's first public release. Everything else below accurately reflects how the app works today.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Leafy mobile app ("Leafy", "the app", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using Leafy, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. What Leafy is

Leafy helps you photograph a plant to get an AI-assisted assessment of its health, track its recovery over time through photo check-ins, and receive simple, AI-generated care suggestions (e.g. watering, light, pest checks). Leafy is currently free to use.

2. Not professional advice

Leafy does not provide professional horticultural, botanical, agricultural, or any other regulated advice. Plant identifications, health assessments, and care recommendations are generated by an AI model based on the photo(s) you provide, and are intended as general, informational guidance only — not a certified diagnosis. AI-generated results can be inaccurate or incomplete. You are solely responsible for the decisions you make about your plants, including watering, treatment, placement, or disposal. If a plant may be toxic, diseased in a way that risks other plants, pets, or people, or you need certainty, consult a qualified professional (e.g. a local nursery, horticulturist, or extension service).

3. Your account

You must provide a valid email address and keep your login credentials secure.
You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
You must be old enough to legally use online services in your country to create an account.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account — see our Privacy Policy for what this removes.

4. Your content

You own the plant photos and information you upload to Leafy ("your content"). By uploading content, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display it back to you as part of providing the app's features (e.g. sending your photo to our AI provider to generate a diagnosis, and showing your photo history back to you). We don't use your content for advertising or sell it to third parties.

You agree not to upload content that:

You don't have the right to share.
Is illegal, abusive, or infringes someone else's rights.
Isn't a genuine plant photo submitted for its intended diagnostic/care purpose (e.g. attempting to abuse the AI service with unrelated images).

5. Free access and usage limits

Leafy is currently free for everyone. To keep the underlying AI service sustainable, free accounts are limited to 3 plant scans per day; this limit is enforced on our servers and resets automatically each day. We may introduce a paid tier with higher or unlimited limits in the future — if we do, we'll update these Terms and clearly communicate any change before it affects you. Leafy does not currently process any payments.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Attempt to bypass, automate, or abuse the scan limits or any other part of the service.
Access or attempt to access another user's account or data.
Reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the app or its backend services.
Use Leafy for anything unlawful or harmful.

7. Service availability

Leafy depends on third-party services (including our database/authentication provider and our AI provider) to function. We don't guarantee the app will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free — features like plant scanning may be temporarily degraded or unavailable if a dependency has an outage.

8. Limitation of responsibility

Leafy is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for any loss or damage to your plants, or any other loss, arising from your use of or reliance on AI-generated diagnoses or care recommendations. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

9. Account termination

You may stop using Leafy and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms (e.g. abusive use of the AI service, attempting to access other users' data), or that we reasonably believe pose a security risk to the service or other users.

10. Changes to the service or these Terms

We may update Leafy's features or these Terms over time as the app develops. If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
